GAS STATIONS
Greece is full of gas stations! You won’t face any trouble
refuelling, but keep in mind that most gas stations are concentrated
around the cities and along the national and main countryside
roads. If you plan to go travelling in the mountains, make sure
you leave with a full tank. On the maps of Greece that Road
Editions has published almost all gas stations have been marked,
so you can plan your route in advance keeping in mind how far
your bike will allow you to go.
Official gas station opening times are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday and from 7:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Since 1992, though, opening hours have unofficially been left
up to the owners, so most gas stations remain open till 9:00
p.m. and 10% of them never close. Also, keep in mind that the
owner of an isolated or village gas station usually lives right
next to it or above it, so if it isn’t too late you can
always honk or ring his doorbell and ask for service.
PRICE OF GAS
Unleaded: about 1€ per litre
TYRE REPAIR SHOPS
Tyre repair shops can be found in every town, large or small.
They are usually located near the entrance or the exit of the
town and they remain open till late in the evening. Most gas
stations serve as tyre repair shops as well, or they at least
have the necessary equipment to help in case of emergency. Both
tyre shops and gas stations that provide adequate vulcanising
services are marked on the Road Editions maps. But much too
often tyre shops not specialising in motorcycles don’t
keep a stock of motorcycle tyres or inner tubes. They also lack
a torque wrench, so after fixing the tyre it would be wise to
make a stop at a good repair shop as soon as you can and to
have the bolts tightened properly.
