This
gorgeous property has been cleverly and tastefully restored to provide
gracious and luxurious accommodation. Originally, the main building
was the village olive oil processing plant, and huge millstones
and old machinery set in the main reception areas pay homage to
the past. The hotel is centrally positioned in the old village of
Spilia (there are caves in the area, and the name “Spilia”
means cave). The village lies 25km west of Chania town, in the district
of Kissamou, and is approx. 3km from the beach at Kolymbari.
The
hotel is spread over 4000sqm and is made up of 6 interlinked stone
buildings, imaginative gardens, a romantic open air taverna, and
a lovely swimming pool set in orange and lemon groves. The pool
has a shallow end for children, and is surrounded by peaceful gardens
with sun loungers, garden furniture, barbecue and a pool bar.
The graceful reception building contains a large lobby, and a breakfast
room. The hotel rooms are set within restored houses dating from
the 13th – 17th centuries. The rooms are unique and immaculate,
offering a high standard of comfort, and boasting original Venetian
arches, and exposed wooden ceiling beams. All rooms have luxurious
en-suite bathrooms with either hydro massage baths or showers, toweling
robes, air conditioning, satellite TV, radio and hair-dryer. There
is a mini-bar, safety deposit box, telephone, and Internet connection
(even a laptop on request!) and a laundry service, all of which
is available at an extra charge.
A: Sixteen rooms suitable for 2-3 people,
with one double bed (many are four-posters!) and a chaise longue
(single bed size), and bathroom with shower or bath tub/showerhead
and WC. Many of the rooms have a balcony or terrace with garden
furniture and sun umbrella. One room is suitable for guests with
special mobility needs.
B: The three suites for 2-4 people,
have one bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with shower or
bath tub and WC. Further there is a living/bedroom with two sofa
beds and open fireplace. Two suites are in maisonette style, and
one is split-level.
It is possible to book interconnecting rooms for 4, 5 or 6 people,
which can be either 2 x rooms or a Suite connected to a room. There
is horse riding nearby and mountain bikes can be rented. This is
a beautiful spot for people who like a touch of luxury and romance,
in glorious surroundings, or for those who enjoy exploring the wonderful
countryside of Western Crete and swimming at the numerous beaches
close at hand. A car is recommended.
